INJURY UPDATE (4/14/08):

Several people have asked so here's the info. Original injury date is 10/7/07. My original injuries were:

1. Torn MCL (medial collateral ligament; largest and strongest ligament located on the inside of your knee)

2. Torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament)

3. Torn patella tendon

4. Dislocated patella (knee cap)

5. Torn meniscus; cartilage damage

6. Fractured tibia

7. Partially torn PCL (posterior cruciate ligament)

8. Extreme bone bruising of the tibia and femur which hit together so intensely that 5 months post injury, my surgeon could still see deep indentations where the bones had hit together with such force they still had divots in them.

9. I damaged three of the four major ligaments that hold your lower leg to your upper leg with only the distal collateral ligament left in place which is the tiniest and weakest ligament on the knee measuring only about and inch or so in length; a hairs breath from a total dislocation. Simply put, I am very grateful to God for saving my leg. I had my surgery (1/10/08) and by the grace of God, through the exceptionally skillful hands of my surgeon (Dr. Carlos Prietto, Irvine, CA), I will be able to be back to normal activities, fully functional, in the near future (1 to 1 1/2 years.)

UPDATE 6-23-08: I have finally begun riding again!!!! I rode three times and then we headed off to Tulsa, OK to the Pinto World Championships June 7 - 21. I  did 3 "test rides" on my mare Dreamy and decided to give a try at competing with her. She is a trained show horse who did an outstanding job for me in the show ring. We won World Champion Saddleseat Mare and Reserve World Champion Mares 5 & under - not too bad for my first time back in the show ring. I competed in my custom riding brace and rode conservatively, but being able to compete at all, never mind at this level, is truly nothing short of a blessing and miracle from God. I am grateful and thankful to God for my healing. God has given me much faith throughout many years of trials. He strengthened me and gave me confidence in the Great Physician. My faith is in Him and through Him, and I never doubted His ability to heal me.  I still cannot jog or run and I am still limited on the type and amount I can ride, but I am thrilled to be back riding and will continue to work very hard at gaining the muscling required to stabilize my knee so I can ride more difficult horses in the future.  I am now attending physical therapy only 2 times a week (down from the 3x's a week for the last 6 months), for several hours a day and it continues on for at least another 4 months.  Physical therapy is incredibly helpful and the staff of CMS (Center for Medicine and Sport, Chino Hills, CA - I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE IN SOCAL!) have done a phenomenal job of bringing me as far as I am now. CMS is THE place to go for physical therapy if you are serious about healing, strengthening and conditioning, there is no other facility and staff like CMS!

Additionally, nearly all the treatment of my injury has been done with natural supplements and natural anti-inflammatory medicine.
